Custom Handmade Jewelry
Although this sign is meaningful and true on this street in my neighborhood, in the rest of life, it’s almost never true. Rarely ever is there just ONE WAY to do things.
When it comes to jewelry design, sometimes, I’m overwhelmed by the various options of roads I could go down. For example, I’ll find a really beautiful vintage brooch and I could make it into a necklace, or a bracelet, or if I happen to find two that match or compliment each other, they could be earrings. Then, once I decide what I’m making, the options are almost endless about what chains and beads and findings to adorn it with. I’ve collected so many bits and pieces over the years, that sometimes my biggest challenge is just making decisions.
Recently, I made this mixed metal butterfly and flower brooch into a necklace. I loved the different metal colors, and wanted to stick with that theme as I chose the chain. I really liked how it turned out
A couple of hours after I listed it in my Etsy shop, someone bought it. They included a note asking me to change it up a little. They preferred the chain that was gold with little wire wrapped faux pearls and wanted both sides to match.
Because I’m ALL ABOUT customizing things for people, I was so glad the buyer didn’t just pass on it. Instead, she just asked me to make a little adjustment. I went one way, but she had a different route she preferred. Here’s what the final product looked like.
So there’s my message for today. When it comes to jewelry design, there is never just one way. I always make things I like, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect for someone else. If you see something you like, but you think, “Oh, if only it had this instead of that…” it can probably be changed up so that it’s perfect for you. Don’t be shy. 🌟
